I'm going to post this Saturday and Sunday to try and make up for the fact that i didn't post for a few weeks. This is the penultimate installment of the Summer holiday posts and i hope you have enjoyed them so far but don't dispair there is still one left.
This post is about Summer Shades, summery shades of make-up which i like to use to give me a more in the summer as i like a heavier look in Autumn/Winter. so lets get started shall we...
Powder is an essential summer product, well it is for me. I get very greasy in my T-zone throughout the day so i like to pack on the powder before i leave the house. This powder isn't my favorite i usually use the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in transparent but my housemate gave me this so i thought i would try it. I do like it but the Rimmel one is cheaper and does the same job. Powder is not necessary if you have dry skin and there are other products which would work better for drier skin such as a setting spray so do some research depending on your skin type.
2. Sleek Blush Trio in Pink Lemonade
Ok so i included this for the cream blush in the middle of the trio. It is a beautifulpink shade and works lovely in the summertime to give you a dewy pink flush, it isn't as natural as a more reddy blush but it looks lovely in the summertime and very feminine. A cream blush lasts longer than a powder so they are better for the summer when your make-up melts off of your face.
3. Smashbox Hazel Eyes Palette
I have spoken about this palette before in a post which i will link here.....(Smashbox Hazel Eyes Palette Post) I had a bit of a problem with the smoky trio but the soft trio worked beautifully and i would recommend it for the summer. The colours are all very light, the light yellow shimmer and the green for the crease work great together and provide a little bit of colour, great for summer whilst taking you away from neutral and dark shadows. Have a look at the colours in the linked post and if you don't have Hazel eyes you can adapt the crease shade to suit their eye colour but to be honest it is pretty universal, especially the shimmery champagne colour.
4. Essie Nail Polish in Ruffles & Feathers
Once again i have spoken about this polish before and dedicated a whole post to its beauty but it has made it into another post. Essie's Ruffles & Feathers is such a lovely change for a summer nail shade, it takes you away from the typical pink and bright shades that are popular in the summer. Apart from the unique shade it has the standard Essie polish quality which you can't really complain about, the only thing about this polish is that i would suggest using a base coat as it stains your nails horribly.
5. Revlon Scented Nail Polish in Ginger Melon
On the theme of products i have mentioned lots is the Revlon nail polish in Ginger Melon, i mentioned it earlier in the week and i think it has probably been in the majority of my posts. To be honest this is my favorite shade for this summer and has been the one polish i have gone back to consistently. The shade is absolutely perfect for summer and the scent is great, what is there not to love?
6. No7 Lash Impact Mascara
This is not a shade but mascara helps to complete any look. I love this mascara as it gives a very natural finish to your lashes but can be built up to make them a bit thick whilst keeping them looking natural. I tried this at random and i'm so glad i did because it is such a good mascara. It is great for the summer as it ties in with the more natural look which people tend to opt for. Also it is in sparkly red packaging who can resist?
7. Bourjois Eye shadow cream in 03 Petale de Glace
I bought this at the same time as the Maybelline color tattoo and to be honest i was disappointed with this product because i didn't like the consistency compared to the color tattoo shadows. I struggled to find a good way to apply it but the best way is with your finger and then use a brush to blend it out. The colour is very strange, from one angle it looks pink, then others it looks taupe and some it looks silver so it has quite a dual finish but it looks lovely on the lid without giving you a strong colour. It makes you look like you have put more effort in than you have. The consistency is weird which is why i struggled with it but if you preserve the colour is great for summer.
8. Revlon Matte Lip Crayon in Unapologetic
This shade is not very talked about on blogs but it was one of the two shades that stood out to me instantly when i first saw the shade range in Boots. It is a bright coral colour which is not something that i usually go for, i like more pinky colours so i have to be feeling brave to wear it. It definitely suits people with a tan more than me but its all about how you wear it, if you feel confident you will look it. It is similar to Audacious, another Revlon Matte Lip Crayon which is more commonly talked about which is more orangey. I'm not brave enough to go for a shade like that but this is a good alternative if you are like me and bit of a make-up wimp. They last for quite a long time but the colour does cling to dry skin so make sure your lips are smooth. The shades are great for a summer bold lip colour so have a look and see what your favorite colours are.
9. L'oreal Glam Shine Lip Crayon in 915 Die for Guava
Going back into my comfort zone with a pink lip colour is another lip crayon, if you couldn't tell i like lip crayons because i think their easy to apply, they have great colours and they are everywhere at the moment. This is a more sheer colour than the Revlon ones but still gives a good wash of pink over the lips with a glossy finish. I like this look but some people don't i think they are great if you want colour but aren't feeling bold and i think these lip crayons aren't spoken about enough and given enough credit for the way they finish a look.
10. Revlon Lip Butter in Sugar Frosting
From a product not spoken about enough to a product which is over hyped. Don't get me wrong i like the Revlon Lip Butters but they aren't as amazing as some people make them out to be. Sugar frosting is quite a pale shade with shimmer in it and i can imagine some people hate it but i like it with a bit of a stronger, darker eye. It lets your lip colour shine but makes it just that little bit better which i like. Also it is moisturising which is great during the summer when your lips are bring dried out by the heat. A lot of the colours in the range are great so if this colour isn't for you, you will be able to find one which is suited to your look.
